Reynolds gold mine expansion

Reynolds Metals Company recently announced a planned expansion of the Boddington Gold mine in Western Australia to double its original processing capacity, making it the largest gold mine in Australia and one of the world’s largest. Reynolds is a 40% owner of the Boddington mine.

When the new expansion is completed in the first half of 1989, Boddington will have the capacity to process six million metric tons of ore per year. Government approval is expected in time to start construction later this year.

Boddington started operations in July 1987 with a design throughput of three million tons per year. A $25 million enhancement program to permit ore throughput of 4.5 million tons per year is now nearing completion.

During its first year of operation, Boddington produced 230,448 oz gold, substantially exceeding design capacity.
