A visual inspection tool designed to provide accurate diagnosis of problems inside engines, transmissions and final drives on a variety of mining equipment is now available from Lenox Instrument of Trevose, Pa. Maintenance personnel can use the constructoscope, a rigid borescope with a high-intensity hard-optics light system, to examine key internal machine parts in minutes, according to the company. The operator inserts the probe of the scope into any body opening larger than 0.118 inches in diameter and moves the instrument about until the area in question is visible.
The unit can be used to find cracks as small as 0.001 inches long, spot valve and ring damage, clogs, rust and other corrosion.
