A letter of intent has been signed between Falconbridge Ltd. and Halex Resources which gives Halex the option to acquire a 40% interest in the Heenan property located 135 miles southwest of Timmins in the Swayze gold-belt area.
To acquire its interest, Halex must spend $1.3 million during the next three years; Falconbridge also has an option on 200,000 shares of Halex, subject to regulatory approval.
In the western part of the Heenan property, Halex President Laurent Halle reports a quartz vein system in an iron formation has returned assays up to 0.64 oz gold. Drill holes in the vicinity indicated 10 ft at 0.25 oz, 4 ft at 0.16 oz and 1.1 ft at 0.3 oz. About 400 ft further west, another hole assayed 0.08 oz over 35 ft.
In the eastern part of the property, a prospect of lead, zinc, gold and silver was delimited in 1950, Mr Halle reports.
In other news, Halex recently completed an exploration program involving three properties in the Belleterre area of Quebec.
On the Bearn gold property, located 40 km west of Belleterre, surface sampling assayed up to 0.19 oz, Mr Halle reports. An ip survey revealed an anomaly one km long corresponding to a major fault which crosses the property. One drill hole returned 0.02 oz over 20 ft. More work on the property is planned this year.
On the Lac des Bois property, located 15 km west of Belleterre, an ip survey revealed a continuous conductor for more than five km in length. Six drill holes, located at various locations along this anomaly, indicated pyrite mineralization in each hole, the president reports. One hole intersected a zone of mineralization 100-ft thick in sericite felsic tuff containing up to 30% pyrite; the zone, however, returned low gold values upon assay. More drilling is planned this year.
On the Belleterre property, geophysical surveys revealed coinciding max-min conductors and magnetic highs, Mr Halle reports. Further work is planned.
Preliminary work has also been carried out on two newly-acquired properties. On one, the N.D.D.N. gold-zinc property located 80 km south of Rouyn-Noranda, a $300,000 exploration program is proposed for 1987-88. And on the other, the Dack Twp. gold property, located 40 km south of Kirkland Lake, a bulk sample is planned this year.
Le Groupe d’or Harricana is providing Halex with $2 million in flow-through financing for the 1987-88 exploration season.
