Results from the first phase of drilling on an epithermal gold property, held by vse-listed Emerald Isle Resources, near the U.S.-Mexico border indicate the existence of two distinct gold-bearing zones which may prove to be mineable by open pit methods.
Typical average sections from each zone are 0.12 oz gold per ton across 44.5 ft in hole No 8 and 0.05 oz over 64 ft in hole No 36, according to Richard Addison, a director of the company.
The gold occurs as fine-grained native gold in a red hematized quartz host rock. The zones remain open in all directions.
The second phase of drilling, designed to block out tonnages, will begin next month.
The property, called the Datil project, is located about eight kilometres south of the town of Caborca in Sonora State, Mexico.
