Drilling at the Boyongan copper-gold prospect in the Philippines continues to yield impressive results for partners
Boyongan is part of the North project, in which Anglo can earn a 40% interest by funding exploration. This can be increased to 70% by completing a feasibility study.
Three rigs are currently turning on the property.
Hole 16 intersected 378 metres (starting at a down-hole depth of 184 metres) grading 0.64% copper and 0.46 gram gold per tonne, before having to be stopped because of mechanical problems. The hole was collared 150 metres northwest of hole 14 and drilled southward.
Collared 300 metres in the opposite direction, hole 17 cut 392 metres (starting at 108 metres) grading 0.65% copper and 0.44 gram gold. Within that interval, 92 metres ran 0.44% copper and 1.46 grams gold.
Like hole 16, hole 17 was drilled southward.
Partial results are available for hole 18, which was drilled vertically from the same spot as hole 14 so as to test for depth extensions to mineralization intersected in that hole and hole 15. Starting at 61 metres down-hole, 435 metres carried 0.83% copper and 2.32 grams gold, with the first 269 metres running 1.04% copper and 3.52 grams gold.
Hole 18 bottomed out at 900 metres below surface. Mineralization was noticeable to the hole’s bottom, though it weakens in the final 77 metres, where plagioclase and horblende become more abundant.
Results are pending for holes 19 and 20, both of which reportedly intersected the mineralized diorite for 285 metres and 410 metres, respectively. The final 5 metres of hole 20 passed through the plagioclase-hornblende-rich portion of the porphyry.
Hole 19 was drilled westward from hole 16’s collar, whereas hole 20 was collared 110 metres east of hole 14. Hole 21, which was collared a few metres from hole 20 but drilled northwards, is in progress.
Boyongan is on the island of Mindanao in the province of Surigao del Norte. It was originally discovered during a prospecting program, only to be confirmed at depth last September, when hole 6 cut 365 metres grading 0.81% copper and 1.9 grams gold. Equally impressive results were intersected in follow-up holes 14 and 15 (drilled 300 metres northeast of hole 6).
To date, drilling has intercepted significant mineralization over a 750-by-400-metre area.
Mineralization appears to consist of an earlier gold-rich copper porphyry system with a significant oxide cap, overprinted or coupled by a high-sulphidation copper-gold event. This marks the second such deposit discovered on the island of Mindanao in the past few years.
