Vancouver — Three diamond drill holes collared in the Lismer Ridge area, some 1.5 km southeast of the promising Dana Lake target in northern Ontario, have returned widespread platinum-palladium values for operator
The project is 60 km northeast of Sudbury. The holes tested the downdip extension of surface mineralization identified in mafic magmatic breccia over an 800-metre strike length along the intrusive contact at Lismer Ridge.
Initial sampling results in the Lismer Ridge area caught the company’s attention. Pacific North West Capital (PNWC) collected 15 samples from the northwestern-most line at Lismer Ridge. Results averaged 0.18 gram combined platinum-palladium per tonne over 10 metres. A hundred metres to the southeast, 40 samples returned an average of 0.68 gram over a 25-metre width. Hole 38 was collared along this line. The hole cut 36 metres grading 0.31 gram platinum, 0.52 gram palladium and 0.18 gram gold per tonne from a down-hole depth of 27.3 metres. Included in this interval were three higher-grade sections ranging up to 1.24 grams platinum, 1.82 grams palladium and 0.48 gram gold over 1 metre.
A further 425 metres southeast along strike, 173 samples returned an average grade of 0.88 gram over a 20-metre width. Hole 40 was collared near this area and cut 20.7 metres averaging 0.53 gram platinum, 1.22 grams palladium and 0.12 gram gold from a down-hole depth of 21 metres. Included in this section was a 4-metre portion that returned 0.91 gram platinum, 2.43 grams palladium and 0.15 gram gold.
About 67 metres southeast of hole 40, hole 39 returned 40.6 metres grading 0.2 gram platinum, 0.41 gram palladium and 0.03 gram gold. Included in this interval was a higher-grade section running 0.44 gram platinum, 0.96 gram palladium and 0.06 gram gold over 8.5 metres.
Continuing along strike another 125 metres southeast of hole 39, sampling returned an average grade of 1.52 grams over a 25-metre width. This area returned the highest-grade individual sample: 9.3 grams combined platinum-palladium.
PNWC says additional drilling will be required to determine the extent of the mineralization.
These latest results completed the third round of drilling on the River Valley property. The next target area is the Varley prospect, 3.2 km south of hole 39. The showing hosts platinum-palladium-gold mineralization along the same intrusive contact as Lismer Ridge and Dana Lake.
To date, 37 holes totalling 6,562 metres have been drilled in the Dana Lake area. According to PNWC, mineralized mafic breccias have been outlined over a 900-metre strike length, over widths of more than 40 metres and down to a vertical depth of 190 metres. The variable grades and widths of the intersection confirm that closely spaced drill holes will be required in order to outline a bulk-tonnage deposit at Dana Lake.
Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) stands to earn a half-interest in various properties owned by PNWC in return for spending $4 million on exploration. On the River Valley project, the major was required to spend a minimum of $1 million. Amplats has subsequently increased the budget and spent an extra $500,000 on the third phase of drilling. PNWC is now considering accelerating the program over the next 14 months.
