C.O. “Chuck” Brawner, a civil engineer with extensive experience in rock mechanics, has received the R.F. Leggat Award for his contributions to the field of geotechnical engineering.
The award was presented to Brawner, former president of Golder Brawner and Associates, by the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) at its annual meeting in late October.
Brawner is currently president of an engineering firm in Vancouver, B.C. He began his 40-year career designing highways in British Columbia and later contributed to the design and construction of tailings dams, bridge foundations and railway tunnels. He also has developed rock stability programs for projects throughout the world.
Between stretches in the private sector, Brawner taught geomechanics and engineering at the University of British Columbia for 16 years. An award-
winning author, editor and educator, he has lectured at more than 90 universities and other institutions.
