Electrical Supervisor

Mine

As the ideal candidate, you are a certified journeyman electrician or technologist. You have a minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience with a technical background in high voltage systems, maintenance systems on electric shovels and drills, and haulage truck/loader electrical drive systems. You have knowledge of PLC controls on large mining equipment. In addition, you have well-developed computer skills and are familiar with computerized maintenance systems.

Mechanical Supervisor

As the ideal candidate, you are a certified journeyman mechanical or technologist. You have previous experience with electric shovels and drills, 5 years of supervisory experience in a mining environment, and you have worked with computerized maintenance systems. Your strong organizational skills will enable you to supervise a multi-disciplined crew of 15 employees.

Operations Supervisor

Concentrator

Reporting to the Section Manager, Operations, your responsibilities will include coordinating the activities of a shift crew (operations and maintenance personnel) to meet production, safety and quality requirements. Your work area will be the ore processing plant where crushing/grinding, concentrating, loading and shipping via railway take place.

As the ideal candidate, you are a graduate of a mechanical or metallurgical technology program with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a supervisor in a mineral processing plant. You possess good communication and decision-making skills.

Commissioning and start-up of KPO is on schedule for June 1999. Agrium will directly operate the Mill and will subcontract the Mine> An Agrium Mine Superintendent will have direct control of the Mine contract to ensure safe and efficient operation and to coordinate Mine production with Mill operations.

A Chief Assayer and two Lab Assayers are required for the KPO Lab. The lab will operate in a team environment. The ability to communicate in both English and French is a definite asset. The KPO operating philosophy will be to ensure the Lab works closely with and becomes an integral member of the Mine and Mill operation teams.

Chief Assayer

Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, you will manage and deliver comprehensive laboratory services for the site including the mine and mill, site monitoring and environmental initiatives and quality control activities. Specifically, you will develop and implement lab procedures, analysis and quality control methods and will prepare and analyze samples from the mine, mill and site. You will be required to assist mine and mill staff in technical evaluations and analysis as well as prepare, transcribe and analyze data. As you support health, safety and environmental initiatives, you will coordinate lab services and participate in ongoing training and coaching.

You have an undergraduate degree in chemistry or a two-year diploma in chemical technology. Eight years’ experience in and ore processing laboratory or quality control environment is required. You work well in a team environment and exhibit exceptional decision making, problem solving and communication skills. Competition KAP #601

Lab Assayers

Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, you will perform similar duties to the Chief Assayer responsibilities as they are assigned by that person. Additionally, you will conduct sampling and analysis in both the lab and the mill to monitor quality standards.

You have an undergraduate degree in chemistry or a two-year chemical technology diploma and three years’ experience in an ore processing lab or quality control environment. Competition KAP #701

Kapuskasing Phosphate Operations (KPO) includes an open pit mine, processing mill and shipping operations currently under construction 40 km southwest of Kapuskasing in Northern Ontario. Commissioning and start-up is scheduled for 2Q-99. KPO will produce and ship about one million tons per year of phosphate concentrate. Agrium will directly operate the Mill and will subcontract operation of the Mine.

Mine Engineer

Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, you will be responsible for the preparation of pit and dump designs and will calculate phosphate reserves and develop short, medium and long range plans, production schedules, equipment productivity and other projects as assigned. You will plan and coordinate the detailed location of structures including roads, stockpiles, dams, etc. related to the mining, and coordinate surveyors and survey materials moved on a regular basis. You will take a lead role as the site specialist in the geological and mining engineering functions.

You have an undergraduate degree in Mine Engineering with five to ten years’ experience including extended exposure to an open pit production facility. Computer literacy, including a thorough knowledge of mine planning software, is essential. Proven leadership capabilities and the demonstrated ability to produce results will help to ensure your success. Competition KAP #801.

Metallurgist

Reporting to the Mill Superintendent, your main objective will be to implement a highly efficient, cost effective phosphate mill operation maximizing both plant recovery and utilization. You will lead process improvements that result in increased throughput and reduced costs. You will closely cooperate with plant operating and technical staff.

You have an undergraduate degree in a related discipline and five to ten years of metallurgical experience. Eligibility for membership in PEO is required. An excellent understanding of computerized process control and planned maintenance systems is essential. Experience in managing an on-site analytical lab is a definite asset. Competition KAP #901

Environmental Officer

Placer Dome North America, one of the continents leading gold producers, requires a talented, motivated team member for their Campbell Mine in Balmertown, Ontario, located in the Red Lake Mining District.

This position reports to the Environmental Superintendent.

Duties & Responsibilities: The incumbent is responsible for implementing and assisting with environmental monitoring programs and habitat restoration programs. An integral part of the position requires working closely with other departments to develop and implement proactive strategies for environmental protection and regulatory compliance. Ongoing maintenance of the environmental database, obtaining environmental permits and preparation of technical reports is requisite.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a degree in an environmental, chemical or biology discipline. This position requires a self-motivated, team player. Strong organizational, interpersonal and computer skills are requisite. Three to five years experience within the mining industry would be an asset as would membership in the Association of Professional Engineers or the Association of Professional Chemists of Ontario.

The Red Lake District has produced 18.4 million ounces of gold to date. The Campbell Mine has produced 9.5 million ounces through 49 years of continuous production. The Red Lake area has a population of approximately 5,000 people.
