District Exploration Geologist

Placer Dome North America, one of the continents leading gold producers, requires a talented, motivated individual for their Campbell Mine in Balmertown, Ontario, located in the Red Lake Mining District.

This position reports to the Chief Geologist.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Manager gold exploration in the Red Lake Mining District and surrounding areas. Generate exploration targets, identify properties, and participate in property leases negotiations and land acquisitions in the Red Lake vicinity. Plan and conduct exploration programs identifying ore to be processed through for the Campbell Mine Mill. The successful candidate will also be involved with mine site exploration activities and assist with geologic investigations in the mine. Other responsibilities include mentoring local prospectors and monitor local mining and exploration activity.

Qualifications & Requirements:

MSc or BSc in Geology with 8 or more years of experience in mineral exploration. The preferred applicant will have experience and knowledge of gold exploration in greenstone terrain and a strong background in applied field geology. Work experience in underground and open pit mines is a definite plus. The incumbents will be identifying exploration targets and managing approved projects from inception through all stages of an evaluation. The position will require a geologist that is self-motivated, innovative, and practiced. Good communication and computer skills on standard office software packages are a must. Proficiency in AutoCad and Vulcan is a benefit.

The Red Lake District has produced 18.4 million ounces of gold to date. The Campbell Mine has produced 9.5 million ounces through 49 years of continuous production. The current annual production is 300,000 ounces, with nine years of ore reserves.

Human Resources Manager

Major Drilling Group is seeking applicants for the above position. Based in Moncton, N.B. Major has 38 locations in 26 countries providing mineral exploration drilling services to the various mining resource companies.

The applicant will be responsible for co-ordinating and supervising a complete human resource program within the company. Implementation of policy and management of the company’s Health and Safety Team will be considered a key part of this person’s job description. This person will also co-ordinate the environmental management program.

Experience with compiling safety statistics, WCB claims, administering training programs and strong communication skills are essential. Candidate must be bilingual and able to travel frequently.
