Asia expands Copperstone

Drilling on the Copperstone property in Arizona has extended the high-grade Northwest zone, reports Asia Minerals (AMP-A).

The Vancouver-based junior, which has a 25% interest in the project and the option to earn up to 80% from a subsidiary of Royal Oak Mines (RYO-T), launched a 10,000-ft. drill program on Copperstone in September.

The company says two of the six holes most recently drilled on the D-zone (part of the Northwest zone) intersected high-grade gold mineralization. Results include 0.46 oz. gold per ton over 30.5 ft. in hole 5 and, 140 ft. farther downdip, 0.75 oz. per ton over 10.6 ft.

Asia Minerals has drilled 33 holes on the northerly plunging, stratabound D-zone. So far, the high-grade gold mineralization stretches over a strike length of about 1,000 ft. and appears to have a width of 250-350 ft. and a true thickness of 10-40 ft. The company says geological evidence suggests a strong potential to increase the size of the zone along strike and downdip.

Cyprus Mineral pulled 500,000 oz. from Copperstone between 1987 and 1992. In the mid-nineties, Royal Oak discovered a northwestern extension of the mine’s mineralization. The Northwest zone is now estimated to contain 474,000 oz. in a drill-indicated and inferred resource of 890,000 tons at a cut grade of 0.53 oz. gold.
