EXPLORATION ROUNDUP — Romios finds gold near Musselwhite

Sampling of a recently discovered gold showing on its Lundmark-Akow Lake property in north-central Ontario has given Romios Gold Resources (RGRI-C) sufficient incentive to plan a drill program.

The property occupies the central portion of the North Caribou Lake greenstone belt, 18 km from the Musselwhite gold mine of Placer Dome and TVX Gold. Lundmark-Akow Lake is underlain by more than 23 km of strike length of banded iron formations analogous to those that host the Musselwhite deposit.

Lundmark-Akow Lake features a deformation zone of sheared and altered mafic volcanic flows and tuffs intruded by a series of narrow, sill-like, quartz-feldspar porphyry intrusives. The zone is characterized by abundant, sulphide-bearing quartz veins and stringers with which the gold appears to be associated. Where exposed, the deformation zone has an average width of 13.75 metres and is vertically dipping.

Romios had independent geologists collect 14 samples from the most southerly exposure of the deformation zone. The assay results ranged from 12.26 to 1,323.81 grams gold per tonne; the average was 402.85 grams.

Samples collected 25 metres north of the property also exhibited strong gold values. The more notable assays ranged from 11.21 to 71.55 grams gold per tonne.

Several samples collected from the most northerly exposure of the deformation zone, adjacent to a large black spruce swamp, assayed 7.57, 15.32, 22.35 and 30.14 grams gold.

All of the sampling was carried out within a small area (100 by 100 metres) in a low-lying swampy portion of the property that features limited bedrock exposure. The surrounding area, for several kilometres, is covered by glacial overburden and a thick veneer of muskeg. In view of the scarcity of outcrop, the full significance of the gold mineralization and the deformation zone can be determined only by diamond drilling, the company notes in a release.

Romios intends to drill the property during the winter months.
