Ongoing diamond drilling by Oroperu Resources (OROP-C) and joint-venture partner Pan American Silver (PAA-T) continues to confirm the presence of gold mineralization at the Tres Cruces project in north-central Peru.
The 50-50 partners drilled nine holes in the South zone and one in the North zone, plus two for metallurgical samples.
Highlights include:
* 34.5 metres (from 42 to 76.5 metres) grading 2.09 grams gold per tonne and 165 metres (from 108 to 273 metres) of 1.31 grams in hole 15; * 18 metres (from 21 to 39 metres) of 1.54 grams gold in hole 51; * 195 metres (from 76.5 to 271.5 metres) of 1.77 grams gold in hole 52; * 35 metres (from 50.5 to 85.5 metres) of 0.97 gram gold and 46.5 metres (from 85.5 to 132 metres) of 2.75 grams gold in hole 53;
* 57 metres (from 99 to 156 metres) of 2.39 grams gold in hole 54; * 192 metres (from 79.5 to 271.5 metres) of 1.38 grams gold in hole 56; and * 88.5 metres (from 154.5 to 243 metres) of 2.19 grams gold in hole 61.
Resources at Tres Cruces are estimated at 7 million tonnes grading 1.19 grams gold per tonne in the North zone and 23.2 million tonnes of 2.24 grams gold in the South.
In other news, Oroperu has received approval for its January 1997 acquisition of the Nueva Condor polymetallic mine, situated 85 km east of Lima, Peru, at elevations of between 3,100 and 4,500 metres.
The underground mine, which operated for 50 years before closing in 1991, produced a lead-zinc concentrate with gold and silver credits.
The wholly owned, 46,800-ha property includes a 450-tonne-per-day mill and mining equipment.
The mine has been refurbished, and a trial operation of the plant was recently completed.
The company is still awaiting a permit to resume normal operation of the plant, where processing is slated to begin at a daily rate of 200 tonnes.
