Drilling at the Camsell Lake diamond project in the Northwest Territories is focusing on an 8-sq.-km target area where diamondiferous kimberlite boulders and anomalous concentrations of pyrope garnets and chromites were discovered in late 1996.
The project is a joint venture held 57.3% by Winspear Resources (WSP-V) and 43.7% by Aber Resources (ABZ-T). Both are based in Vancouver.
At last report, 10 holes had been completed and two others were in progress.
Drilling has tested geophysical and geochemical targets along the western shore of Snap Lake. Seven of the holes have intersected kimberlite dykes. A dyke with an estimated true thickness of 4.3 metres was intersected by hole 204. A macrodiamond measuring approximately 0.6 mm across its largest dimension was observed in the core.
All kimberlite intersections will be analyzed for diamond content by caustic fusion processing. Approximately 2,600 metres of drilling remain to be carried out. Of the 60 targets defined by geophysics and heavy-mineral sampling, 27 are expected to be tested in the current program.
