Surface drilling on the East Amphi property near Malartic, Que., continues to identify new gold-bearing structures for Placer Dome (TSE).
The company can earn a 51% interest in the property from Breakwater Resources (TSE) by paying $500,000 and spending $4.5 million on exploration over four years. Spending another $4 million before Oct. 1, 2000, would earn Placer Dome an additional 9% interest.
Previous surface and underground drilling by Breakwater outlined 850,000 tonnes grading 8.11 grams gold per tonne. Exploration work last year by Placer Dome included geophysical, geological and sampling surveys in select areas and the completion of 20 surface diamond drill holes totalling 4,858 metres.
The 1995 diamond drill campaign extended to the west and at depth the gold-bearing structures. Some of the better intersections from last year’s program included: 7.67 grams gold over 14.52 metres; 3.71 grams over 4.06 metres; 8.78 grams over 5.7 metres; and 8.15 grams over 7.65 metres.
Earlier this year, Placer Dome began a 9,000-metre, 22-hole drill program at East Amphi, 5,500 metres of which have been completed to date. The best gold intersections reported this year include: 11.33 grams over 3.61 metres; 4.5 grams over 6.12 metres; 4.97 grams over 3.32 metres; 4.23 grams over 4.85 metres; 4.04 grams over 6 metres; 4.84 grams over 3 metres; and 3.16 grams over 5.94 metres.
