Province beefs up prospector program

The government of Ontario will contribute an additional $2 million to the Ontario Prospector Assistance Program (OPAP).

Under the program, Ontario’s 5,000 licensed prospectors can qualify for assistance of up to $10,000 per year.

Also, as part of its plan to encourage economic growth in the north, the government has invested $7.6 million in the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory. The observatory, situated at the 6,800-ft. level of Inco’s Creighton mine, will study neutrinos (subatomic particles emitted by the sun) in the hope they will yield clues as to the origin of the universe.
