The annual Mines and Minerals Symposium for northwestern Ontario will proceed as scheduled, April 16-17 in Thunder Bay, with the assistance of the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association (NWOPA).
In past years, the event was organized by the province’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, and there were concerns this year’s event would have to cancelled as a result of a staffing shortage caused by the recent strike of the Ontario Public Service Employees’ Union. Staff will now be provided by the NWOPA.
Major attractions will include the Prospector’s Tent and presentations on discoveries, exploration plays and advanced projects from resident geologists.
Douglas Hume, president of Nuinsco Resources, will present the keynote address.
A similar symposium for northeastern Ontario was cancelled as a result of the strike. It was to have been held in Sudbury.
