Layered sulphide bodies have been intersected in drill holes testing an electromagnetic conductor on Niatak Island, 30 km east of the Voisey Bay deposit.
Joint-venture partners Goldnev Resources (VSE) and Starcore Resources (VSE) report that five short drill holes along three section lines intersected sulphide layers in mafic sills.
The mafic sills intrude anorthosites of the Nain plutonic suite. The surface expression of the mineralized zone is a 300-by-100-metre gossan of weathered iron, copper and nickel sulphides.
Grab samples of the gossan contain a maximum of 0.65% copper, 0.32% nickel and 0.11% cobalt.
The first-phase program of five holes is now complete, and assay results are expected within two weeks. The partners previously reported that holes 4, 4A and 5 intersected massive sulphide mineralization over intervals of 2.1 metres, 8.6 metres and 3.6 metres, respectively.
Starcore and Goldnev are exploring 1,000 hectares on five properties in the Voisey Bay region, including Niatak Island.
