Diamond Fields active in Namibia

Vancouver — Diamond Fields International (DFI-T) has begun mining diamonds off the southern coast of Namibia, near Luderitz.

The project is a 50-50 joint venture with Samicor Mining Services, owned by the Leviev Group, which is using its MV Kovambo, a 104-metre, 3,300-ton vessel equipped with a remote-controlled Seabed crawler.

It is anticipated this vehicle will boost production over previous, air-lift operations.

Diamond Fields has produced more than 65,000 carats of diamonds in the area, 95% of which were gem quality.
