Kenora band to manage sand, gravel works

The Rat Portage First Nation near Kenora, Ont., recently took over management of its sand and gravel resources after signing a 5-year agreement with the federal government.

The Indian band established the Onegaming Ozhushk Corp. to take care of extraction, processing, sales and management of the operation. The corporation is one of 350 community economic development organizations funded by the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development under the federal government’s Canadian Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy.
