Author Tom Mohide studies the various facets of silver, starting with the Hittites, who mined and traded the metal in Asia Minor and Syria in the second millennium B.C.
The book covers the mining, refining, properties, uses, coinage and country-by-country production of silver. Noteworthy is the growing interest in the medical uses of the precious metal, which is often applied to burns. As well, Mohide discusses demand and consumption and shows how the daily price of silver is established.
“All you want to know about silver is in this book,” he says.
