New Mucking Machine Announced by EIMCO

MUCKING MADE EASIER

Eimco Corp. of Salt Lake City, Utah, has developed a mucking machine, the “Tunneloader,” which is not only much larger and more powerful than any of its present models, but also embodies new features that permit loading the largest cars used underground wth greater speed and economy.

The Tunneloader retains the Eimco-Finlay Rocker-Arm Mucking Action — crowding the bucket into the muck pile by its self-tramming power and rolling the bucket and rocker-arm assembly over backward on a supporting track to its dumping position against the bumper springs.

HOLLY HOLDS OWN

DESPITE TAXES

Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines increased its production by $1.4 million in 1940, but this gain was almost entirely offset by a rise in taxes, workmen’s compensation and silicosis assessment, with the result that estimated earnings after deduction of these charges were only $14,000 higher than in the preceding year. The quantity of ore treated was largest since 1933, while the value of output set a new high mark at $16.8 million as compared with $15.5 million in the preceding 12 months.

A WAR THAT WE

SHALL WIN

That we shall win this war and win a new position in the regard of mankind and of history is certain. Beyond the fighting and staying qualities on our side, beyond that we are struggling to maintain the rights and decencies, there is the great point that the Germans do not possess the motive power to keep their war machine in motion.

We mean this: The Germans chose to make this a war of engines and transport operating on petroleum and its products. We, naturally, and in keeping with mechanical progress, have not only matched but imporved their engines and their means of transport. We are backed by seemingly unlimited supplies of motive power. The Germans possess but limited supplies.

QUEBEC MINE TO

BOOST ZINC OUTPUT

Waite Amulet is installing differential flotation equipment for the production of zinc, and unless there are serious delays in deliveries, production of zinc concentrates should commence in April. This news is important to the country because there is a definite shortage of zinc supplies on this continent. Moreover, zinc ore from many parts of the world now has to be shipped to the U.S. because of the loss of refineries in Belgium and elsewhere in Europe.

STATISTICAL

HIDE AND SEEK

British authorities have been anxious that as little as possible respecting actual outputs should appear in the annual reports of base metal companies. Last year, the usual federal reports have very little as to production of copper, zinc, lead and other base metals.

However, it is understood that the forthcoming annual reports will not be utterly devoid of figures, although much that would help the enemy appraise the Canadian mining efort will be hidden. Shareholders will be given general knowledge of how their mines are doing and will, of course, learn the financial results. Whatever ban is placed will not outlast the war. Gold mines are not affected and there is no likelihood that they will be.

THE PROSPECTOR:

AN UNSUNG HERO?

A reader writes:

I have yet to see any solution to the wrongs that have forced the prospector to retreat. There have been restrictions placed on him until all he has left are a club and rabbit track to depend on while staking and performing his work. Government regulators have yet to realize what an asset a good prospector is to the country. He should be encouraged instead of discouraged, for if there is any man who is doing good work to win the war it is the prospector who tries to discover something that will make a new mine.

This not only produces more gold with which to carry this war, but will provide work for the men when they return instead of being faced with a great relief problem when they come home from the firing line.

The thing to do is: When a prospector buys a license, give him a free hand in disposing of his property. Don’t tie him up for the rest of his life by placing his interest in the hands of the Security Frauds Dept.
