GIS conference

At a recent conference in Ottawa, people from many countries met to discuss geographic information systems (GIS). The fifth annual GIS conference was organized by the federal government.

GIS employ computer software to overlap different types of information on digital maps. Applications include solving environmental problems, locating natural resources and managing transportation routes.

Last summer, Canadian GIS enabled this country to win a $25-million contract to update Mexico’s national mapping program.
