It’s a mouthful — The Second International Conference on Environmental Is sues and Management of Waste in Energy and Mineral Production — but with the heightened concerns over acid mine generation, the greenhouse effect and so on, this meeting is timely and truly international.
Members of the organizing committee were drawn from more than 20 countries. Their decidedly unphilosophical addresses include “An evaluative framework to assess disposal options for colliery spoil and other solid wastes.” The conference will take place in Calgary, Alta., Sept. 1-4. Of special interest to Canadian miners might be a pre-conference seminar Sept. 1 on “Closure cost management for mines.”
