Refurbished undergraduate laboratories used by mining engineering students at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont., were officially opened March 5. Nickel producer Inco Ltd. donated $1 million toward the project.
The four laboratories provide students with state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on experience in the areas of rock mechanics and ground control, mineral extraction, mine ventilation and mine environment, and computerized mine design.
Queen’s School of Mines will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1993. The university says that more than half of Canada’s mining engineers are graduates of the School of Mines.
