Melinga drilling in Honduras

A contract to drill 150 holes, 30-50 metres each in length, in northwestern Honduras was recently entered into with a Guatemalan company, Melinga Resources (VSE) reports.

The program is concentrating on the Vueltas del Rio oxide gold-supergene copper zone of the companys Macuelizo concession. The company has also been negotiating a drilling contract to test a porphyry copper-gold target just north of the Vueltas target.

Bolivian miners protest privatization

Miners in Bolivia staged a hunger strike earlier this year as a protest against a decision by the government to lease state-owned mines to private companies.

The financially strapped Bolivian state mining company is not in a position to acquire new equipment for its mines, which were nationalized in the 1950s, to improve efficiency and productivity.
