AUR officers to be honored at PDAC convention in March

The two officers of Aur Resources (TSE), the junior which excited the mining world last year with the large Louvicourt Twp. massive sulphide discovery in northwestern Quebec, will share the 1990 Prospector of the Year Award of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). President James Gill and Vice- President Howard Stockford will be honored during the PDAC’s 58th annual meeting and convention, March 11-14, in Toronto.

To receive the PDAC’s 1990 Developers Award will be Ned Goodman, chairman of Corona (TSE). Norman Keevil Jr., president of Teck (TSE), and Harry Warren, a professor at the University of British Columbia, will each be presented with the Distinguished Service Award.

Honorary life PDAC memberships will be awarded to James McGinn, Donald Smith, Edward Thompson and Sherman Tough.

Theme of this year’s convention is “Exploration and development — new realities.” The PDAC is expecting a crowd similar to last year, when more than 3,700 delegates attended.

To be offered this year by the PDAC in advance of the convention are a short course titled “Exploration geochemistry: design and interpretation of soil surveys” and a symposium titled “Computer treatment of exploration and mining data: dos and don’ts.” The short course is scheduled for March 9-11 and the symposium for March 9-10.

The convention’s keynote session in the morning of March 12 will focus on two issues: land use and environmental priorities. The latter will be the subject of a panel discussion moderated by CBC personality Dale Goldhawk. Serving as panelists will be Monte Hummel, president of World Wildlife Fund Canada; Len Good, deputy minister of Environment Canada; George Miller, president of Mining Association of Canada; and R.M. Ginn, president of PDAC.

Speaking about globalization of the mining and exploration business at the March 12 luncheon will be Klaus Zeitler, president of Metall Mining (TSE). Giving a brief address at the awards banquet that night will be Rex Gibbons, Newfoundland’s minister of mines and a geologist.

Guest speaker at the March 14 luncheon will be Hakan Hermansson, Trelleborg’s manager of business section international, mining and trading.
