In 1975, Auric was drilling a gold prospect at Waddy Lake in the La Ronge area of northern Saskatchewan, as well as looking at various uranium properties elsewhere in Canada. The company was considering the acquisition of potential uranium ground in Africa, and studying some prospects in Mexico and Costa Rica, also.

In a 1975 annual report, Auric president Norman Short told shareholders “management is not nationalistic in its approach. We will look wherever geology is favorable, and wherever social attitudes and tax laws permit adequate returns on time, effort and risk dollars expended.”

The oil price boom of the late 1970s led Chancellor to expand from mining exploration into the petroleum and natural gas arena, which remains its core business today.
