Min Ven solves problems

The South Dakota Department of Water and Natural Resources gave MinVen the green light to continue leaching operations after it determined that repairs undertaken by the company were effective.

Seepage of leach solution into the leak-detection system occurred through joints in the asphalt lining system it has been determined. Recent repairs to the heap leach pad included the application of sealant in the joint areas, followed by a layer of sealant over the entire area repaired.

As a result of successful testing following the repairs, other portions of the pad will undergo similar treatment as the company builds toward normal production levels. Estimated total cost of the pad repairs should be less than $120,000, according to MinVen.

Gold production is being maintained on a reduced basis during the test and repair period. Total Gilt Edge gold production for 1988 was 6,666 oz, with this year’s production expected to reach 40,000 oz.

In other news, MinVen says it has recently completed the acquistion of a one-third joint venture interest in the Golden Reward project, located six miles from the Gilt Edge mine. — pick up original MinVen story on Board US6 at second paragraph
