Quebec delays new mining law

A new Mining Act in Quebec which was scheduled to come into force April 1 will not be promulgated until the first of September, George Cockburn, director of mining titles with the mining division of the province’s ministry of energy and resources, told The Northern Miner.

The new mining legislation was passed in June, 1987, updating the old Mining Act passed in 1965. While the new law could be declared in June, Cockburn said the government feels it would be less disruptive to wait until near the end of the summer season.
