Letters to the Editor: Flow-through fate

I am writing to express my concern over the headline “Ottawa may scrap flow-through shares,” on the front page of the Sept 29 issue of The Northern Miner.

The headline expressed a negative view which is not typical of The Northern Miner. Unfortunately, it is often the headlines which are most frequently noticed by the public on the newsstands.

The article seemed more related to concerns in Quebec than in the rest of Canada. The Hon. Gerald Merrithew, federal mines minister, at a luncheon meeting with members of the B.C. mining community in Vancouver on Sept 24, said he had heard nothing but good about the flow-through share program and if we want it to continue we should tell the government so.

I urge all of your concerned readers to write to the government in support of the flow-through share program. C. A. Aird President British Columbia & Yukon Chamber of Mines
