A large land position covering a new type of geological environment for gold and platinum group metals has been picked up by Aber Resources in the Northwest Territories. Victor A. Tanaka, vice-president, confirms that Aber has staked 40,000 acres of ground 300 miles north of Yellowknife. A major company was involved in the staking program but he was unwilling to divulge its name.
The Corhill property was previously explored only for uranium. Limited chip sampling of old trenches scattered over an 800×100-ft area has yielded assays up to 0.76 oz gold, 1.02 oz platinum and 0.77 oz palladium over narrow widths. Grab samples in between the high grade zones yielded values up to 0.2 oz combined gold and platinum group metals.
The geological setting appears to be similar to the Coronation Hill gold-platinum-palladium prospect in northern Australia which could be a significant new discovery. Drilling is planned for Aber’s Corhill property in early 1988 near the main showing. At the same time, an extensive prospecting program will be mounted elsewhere on the property in a search for other mineralized zones.
