SGS acquires Lakefield Research

Socit Gnrale de Surveillance (SGS Group), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, has acquired Ontario-based metallurgical consultant Lakefield Research for nearly $42 million.

Lakefield, which has annual revenue of roughly $40 million, will continue to be operated by existing management and staff.

Known for its mineral extraction and processing techniques, Lakefield offers a range of inorganic and organic assay services. It has laboratories in Canada, Brazil, Chile, Australia, South Africa and the U.S.

The SGS Group was founded in 1878 and now has more than 30,000 employees in 140 countries. It specializes in verification and monitoring services for international trade in agricultural, mineral, petroleum and consumer products.
