Catalina begins drilling at Pilar

A 1,700-Metre program of reverse-Circulation drilling has begun on Santa Catalina Mining’s (SLM-V) 2,372-ha Pilar project in northwestern Mexico.

Situated in Sonora state, the project comprises four gold targets: La Guadalupana, Zacatecas, Santa Cruz and Represo Viejo.

* La Guadalupana, the prime target, contains several northwest-Trending shears carrying gold and silver mineralization. One of the shears is at least 850 metres long. Free gold is present in hematite, which is found in mineralized shears and stockworks. In the early part of this century, six small gold mines operated in the area.

* Zacatecas is near the southern end of a semi-Circular structure with a 7,000-Metre-long arc. Gold and silver mineralization, accompanied by strong oxidation, occurs along this regional structure at intersections with crossing structures.

* Santa Cruz lies southeast of La Guadalupana, along a northeast-Trending structure. Stream sediment samples have defined a strong gold anomaly, and the area is strongly oxidized.

* Represo Viejo features strong oxidation and silicification. It lies northeast of La Guadalupana, along a northwest-Trending structure.
