The fourth sale this year of diamonds from the Aredor concession in Guinea, West Africa, by Trivalence Mining (TMI-V) included one stone that topped 70 carats in size.
In total, 4,214.1 carats were sold for US$5.23 million (an average of US$1,240 per carat), including a 70.1-carat stone that fetched US$2.76 million, making it the sixth-most valuable diamond ever reported from the 1,112-km Aredor concession.
Trivalence has now reported total diamond sales from Aredor for 1997 of US$8.5 million.
The large stone was recovered by the 14-ft. pan plant that is currently processing the estimated 1.5 million tonnes of tailings on the concession.
Trivalence is nearing completion of its first commercial plan plant at Aredor, which will greatly increase the company’s processing capacity.
