Three diamond drill rigs are at work on the VBE-1 claim block, situated east of, and adjacent to, Inco’s Voisey’s Bay nickel-Copper-Cobalt project in eastern Labrador.
The program is operated by Falconbridge (FL-T), which is spending $3.3 million on a 13,500-Metre program to test the property held by equal partners Columbia Yukon Resources (CYR-A) and International CanAlaska Resources (ICA-V). The objective is to test the property for extensions of Inco’s “Eastern Deeps” deposit to the west of VBE-1.
A geophysical survey has been completed on the claims, and the data generated will be used to select further drill targets.
A fourth rig is about to begin drilling VBE-2, some 10 km south of Voisey’s Bay. Last year’s summer program in this area returned gold values as high as 18.9 grams gold per tonne from gneissic rocks collected from surface outcrops. This year’s $380,000 program will consist of six to eight drill holes designed to test the mineralized zone and associated geophysical anomalies; each will be drilled to a depth of 150 to 200 metres.
The VBE-2 project is held equally by Columbia Yukon and CanAlaska.
