Miner reps to speak at CIM student night

The Bre-X Minerals fraud will be the topic of discussion at a special meeting of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, to be held Jan. 15 at Toronto’s Ontario Club.

The discussion, which is part of the CIM’s annual students’ night, will be presented by Northern Miner Editor Vivian Danielson and staff writer James Whyte, co-authors of Gold Today, Gone Tomorrow: Anatomy of the Busang Swindle.

The talk will examine the Calgary-based company’s rise up the credibility curve, warning signs and how the scam was engineered to deceive both analysts and investors. The discussion will also focus on lessons learned from this and other salting scams.
