I was disappointed that no reference was made to Huckleberry Mines in your article “New Mines Open in 1997” (T.N.M., Jan. 5-11/98).
The Huckleberry mine, which is owned 60% by Princeton Mining and 40% by Japanese interests, is 125 km southwest of Houston, B.C. It is a copper-molybdenum producer with an annual output of about 37,000 tonnes copper, 7,000 oz. gold, 380,000 oz. silver and 1.5 million lbs. moly. The remaining mine life is estimated at 16 year.
After a 15-month construction period, the mine officially opened on Oct. 1, 1997 — ahead of schedule and on budget.
