East wins Keevil hockey match

The eastern Prospectors All-Stars beat the western Miner Selects 18-14 in the Norm Keevil Memorial Hockey Game, held during the annual convention of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada.

The annual event, now in its 37th year, honours the memory of the late Norman B. Keevil, who presided over Teck (now Teck Cominco) in the 1980s. Keevil organized and played in the game until his death in 1989. In 1990, the first memorial game was played.

This year’s game was held at Upper Canada College in Toronto, and not one penalty was handed out during the contest.

Fugro Airborne Surveys sponsored the event and supplied souvenir pucks for all the players, some of whom hauled their hockey equipment from as far away as Chile and Vancouver.

Plans are in the works to hold next year’s game at the Air Canada Centre in downtown Toronto.
