The company is earning a 75% interest in the project, with the remainder held by state-owned Minero Peru.
Previously, French government-owned Bureau de recherches geologiques et minieres carried out a 21-hole drill program on the TG-1 deposit, about 700 metres north of TG-3. As a result, TG-1 was found to contain a resource, amenable to open-pit mining, of about 42.3 million tonnes grading 2.04% copper, 1.47% zinc and 0.36% lead, plus 37.6 grams silver per tonne. The TG-1 deposit will next undergo a feasibility study.
TG-3 is similar to TG-1 in that zones of base metal mineralization occur in a pyritic host. The massive sulphides consist of pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite, and are hosted in a fault-bounded basin within andesitic and dacite flows.
The most recent drill holes were designed to test the extent of TG-3 mineralization in relation to a large gravity anomaly. The company was also testing for higher-grade base metal values away from the core of the gravity anomaly.
By mid-August, Manhattan had drilled 39 holes, or 14,850 metres, on the target. Holes 13, 14, 20 and 28 were collared in the southern portion of the gravity anomaly, and results indicate the presence of a copper-rich zone.
Holes 23, 27, 30, 31 and 32 outlined a zinc-rich area towards the northern margin of the anomaly.
TG-3 has been traced over a strike length of 1 km and over a width of 400 metres. Mineralization remains open to the north, east and south.
Significant results are presented in the accompanying table.
