Radio play lights mining’s dark corners

A 6-part drama about corporate intrigue in the mining industry is set to air on CBC Radio in March and April.

Paydirt will be heavy on behind-the-scenes manoeuvring in both the mining and financial sectors, with a few scandals thrown in for good measure, say the show’s producers. The series stars Eric Peterson (formerly of CBC-TV’s Street Legal series) as a mining analyst and Rosalind Birch (formerly of CBC-TV’s Adderly) as the banker who forges the deals.

The plots for some episodes, which read like headlines in the business press, refer to platinum and silver in Ontario, diamonds, and an entire town that invests in a gold mine. Other episodes revolve around a Mexican copper mine being used to launder money and the illegal sale of uranium.

Paydirt can be heard on CBC Radio One’s Monday Playbill once a week between March 6 and April 10 at 3:30 p.m. EST. CBC Radio Two will air the program on Sunday Showcase between March 5 and April 9 at 10 p.m. and on Monday Playhouse between March 6 and April 10 at 9 p.m.
