Mazaruni recovers gems from Guyana

Partners Mazaruni Minerals (ASE) and Exall Resources (TSE) have recovered diamonds weighing 33 carats from pilot dredging on Guyana’s Mazaruni River.

The latest results — 149 stones from a 1-cubic-metre gravel sample — include a 4-carat diamond, as well as two stones weighing more than one carat each. All the diamonds recovered to date appear to be of gem quality.

The partners are testing two locations on the river, and results are expected to improve as more fresh gravel is processed. To date, half the Mazaruni samples have been taken from overburden or tailings.

The pilot program is expected to continue for several more months and lead to a decision about whether or not to proceed with an application for a mining licence.
