Golden Hills shines for QGX

Impressive drill results keep rolling in for QGX (QGX-V) at its Golden Hills massive sulphide project in western Mongolia.

The latest batch comes from the final 10 diamond drill holes (numbered 49-57) sunk in 2003. All were collared in the North zone, and only one, 53, failed to return any significant results.

Collared at the zone’s western end, on section 9,950E, holes 50-52 each pulled up gold- and silver-bearing gossans. The first two reported 1.61 and 2.49 grams gold per tonne, respectively, plus 6.2 and 6.8 grams silver, over core lengths of 6 metres. Hole 52 intersected 3.95 metres at 16.17 grams gold and 48.3 grams silver.

Holes 50 and 51 were drilled from the same setup but at different angles, while hole 52 was stepped out 50 metres to the east and 15 metres to the south. Recovery problems were experienced in all three, so QGX has contracted a reverse-circulation rig to focus on gossans alone.

Stepping out 300 metres to the east, holes 49 and 55 also intersected mineralized gossans. The former cut 23.1 metres averaging 5.76 grams gold and 15 grams; the latter, 36.15 metres grading 1.95 grams gold and 10.7 grams silver, including 18 metres at 3.34 grams gold and 17.3 grams silver.

Holes 49 and 55 were collared on section 10,300E but 60 metres apart in the north-south direction. Their results are similar to those from holes 47 and 48, which also were collared on section 10,300E but farther north; however, QGX believes each pair highlights separate gossanous bodies.

Like 55, hole 57 returned both types of mineralization, though it was collared 50 metres to the east and 120 metres to the north. Starting at 85 metres, 5.2 metres ran 7.37 grams gold and 76.7 grams silver, followed by 4 metres of barren rock and 31 metres of massive sulphides running 1.24% copper, 4.3 grams silver and 0.21 gram gold.

Hole 58, also collared on section 10,350E but 120 metres north of hole 57, intersected 36.85 metres of massive sulphides grading 1.48% copper, 8.2 grams silver and 0.28 gram gold. The interval lies 120 metres downdip of the one in hole 57.

Each primary interval in holes 57 and 58 had higher-grading sub-zones.

Finally, on section 10,450E, holes 54 and 56 each cut primary mineralization. The former pierced the top of the massive sulphide body, cutting 6.7 metres at 1.64% copper, 7 grams silver and 0.49 gram gold. About 95 metres downdip, 43 metres of hole 56 ran 1.28% copper, 6.6 grams silver and 0.97 gram gold — the highest gold values yet recovered from primary mineralization at Golden Hills. Immediately below that interval, 45 metres graded 0.67 gram gold.

Like other holes, 54 and 56 show a general thickening of the massive sulphide body at depth. They also bring to 100 metres the strike length of the gold-rich core of the massive sulphide body and suggest that grades will increase to the east, toward the postulated feeder zone of the entire Golden Hill’s mineralized system.

Mineralization remains open along strike and downdip.

Another 10 holes are being drilled in the North zone, mostly to test the massive sulphides. The first hole was collared on section 15,000E.

The Golden Hills project comprises three massive sulphide zones and associated gold- and silver-bearing gossans. The Central zone was discovered in mid-2002, when crews came across quartz-chalcedony boulders rich in gold and associated with a larger alteration zone. Subsequent drilling and geophysical surveying led to the discovery of the South and North zones in mid-2003.

All strike east-west and dip to the north, and each is highlighted by geophysical anomalies. The strongest signals are associated with the North zone.

QGX can earn an 80% interest in Golden Hills by spending US$450,000 by 2005. The remainder can be had in exchange for US$1 million in cash.
