A roasting facility at the Big Springs gold project in Nevada recently completed its first year operating 15% above the design rate of 1,000 dry tons per day. For the first 12 months of the operation (to the end of May), the facility averaged 980 dry tons per day, Independence Mining reports. Recovery from the sulphide refractory ore averaged 0.18 oz. gold per ton.
The roaster and mill facility toll ore for the Big Springs joint venture involving Independence and Bull Run Gold Mines (NASDAQ). The plant is situated in the Independence Mountains, 60 miles north of Elko and 6,500 ft. above sea level.
Operations of the plant include ore drying, crushing, grinding and classification, and fluid-bed roasting along with carbon-in-leach gold recovery.
