International Gold exploring West African gold project

Toronto-listed International Gold Resources (IGR) has finished an initial exploration program on its Youga gold property in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

The work consisted of mapping and geochemical sampling over much of the 770-sq.-km concession, which lies on the northern border with Ghana. Five mineralized zones were outlined.

At the Youga Hill zone, IGR excavated and sampled six trenches spanning 665 metres. Two main areas of mineralization were detected, with samples exceeding 200 parts per billion gold over extensive lengths (and individual samples grading greater than several grams per tonne). Here, mineralization exists not only in the quartz veins, but in the wall rocks of the vein systems as well.

Several other wide zones of gold mineralization were discovered, most of which are hosted within Birimian volcanic and sedimentary rocks. IGR is planning a second phase of work, to consist of more geochemical sampling over the five zones, as well as prospecting on two other areas. If results are positive, drilling could begin as early as January, 1995. Meanwhile, at its Bibiani gold project in Ghana, IGR is carrying out trenching and sampling of several targets, as well as large core drilling of the Main zone for metallurgical testing.

About 6,450 lb. of core material from five holes have been sent to Kappes, Cassiday & Associates for metallurgical testing.

Further infill drilling of core holes between 200 ft.-spaced reverse-circulation holes has confirmed the grade and extent of the gold mineralization, and suggests it may be even higher. Core hole 70 assayed 0.170 oz. over 230 ft., excluding mined-out intercepts. Reverse-circulation holes 4 and 40 averaged 0.155 oz. over 140 ft. and 0.088 oz. over 113 ft., respectively.

Additional drilling will test a 2,000-ft. northern extension of the Main mine zone, as well as a 4,000-ft. strike length of two parallel zones. The 20-hole program should be finished by this Christmas.

IGR expects to have a final feasibility study in hand for the Bibiani project by the first or second quarter of 1995.
