New York-listed Hecla Mining is planning a 40,000-ft. drill program on the Grouse Creek gold mine project in Idaho.
The $1-million program will be aimed at finding additional high-grade, underground reserves along the same stratigraphy that hosts the A3 and B3 zones. Deeper drilling, to test for high-grade feeder zones, will also be carried out on the property in which Great Lakes Minerals (TSE) holds a 20% interest. Under an agreement with Hecla, Great Lakes can increase its interest to 30%.
Combined, the A3 and B3 underground zones contain about 200,000 tons of probable reserves averaging 0.5 oz. gold per ton. These zones will be accessed from an adit. Other targets to be tested include the Grouse North, Grouse West and the 9433 Breccia zones.
The project, which is scheduled to enter production in October, contains minable reserves of 15.1 million tonnes averaging 0.055 oz. gold and 1.1 oz. silver. The mining plan envisages two open pits and an underground operation to extract high-grade ore.
