Drilling increasing fortunes of La Fortuna

Drilling by San Fernando Mining (VSE) has increased both the strike and dip length of the established zone on La Fortuna, a gold-silver-copper project in Mexico’s Durango state.

Work by previous operators indicates a probable geological resource of 4.1 million tons grading 0.16 oz. gold and 0.88 oz. silver per ton, plus 0.3% copper. Any increase in both the strike and dip of the zone could have significant implications for tonnage.

Partial assay results from Holes 33 and 34 increased the dip length of the mineralized zone to more than 1,200 ft. where it is still open to further extension. The dip slope feature remained consistent throughout the drill program, suggesting the zone is structurally uncomplicated.

Hole 33 intersected 109.9 ft. grading 0.1 oz. gold and 0.58 oz. silver, plus 0.21% copper from 285.4-395.3 ft. Hole LF-34 intersected 99.7 ft. of 0.09 oz. gold, 0.56 oz. silver and 0.23% copper from 328.1-427.8 ft.

A stepout hole was also drilled to the north, although assay results are not yet available. The company did say that the pervasive mineralization identified in drill core “points to a major extension of the previously established strike length to over 1,000 ft., with associated tonnage implications.”

Drilling continues.
