The late Norman Bell Keevil has been named a member of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. He and five other laureates will be inducted April 11 by Junior Achievement of Canada.
Keevil, who died in late 1989 and who was named to the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in January, 1990, led gold and base metal producer Teck Corp. for many years.
He is described as a pioneer, scientist and mining giant who discovered one of the highest grade copper deposits in northern Ontario. In addition, Keevil was one of the first persons to introduce airborne geophysical techniques to mineral exploration.
Junior Achievement of Canada established its Hall of Fame in 1979 to recognize the achievements and assertive leadership of Canadian business people, past and present, whose foresightedness and innovative energy helped shape and build the nation.
Nominated this year along with Keevil are husband and wife team Thomas and Sonja Bata, Murray Koffler, Edouard Lacroix and Ray Wolfe.
The six new inductees will join 72 members selected during the past 12 years by a board of senior editors and business writers from major Canadian business publications.
