Cyprus, Amax merger approved

Shareholders of Cyprus Minerals (NYSE) and Amax (NYSE) have voted in favor of a merger. The new corporation is called Cyprus Amax Minerals Co.

It becomes the second-largest copper producer in the U.S. It is also a major producer of molybdenum, gold and lithium.

Cyprus Amax has a 40% interest in Amax Gold (TSE).
