A study of samples from the Bajo de la Alumbrera project in Argentina indicates copper and gold recoveries of 91% and 70%, respectively, at average feed grade.
Lakefield Research, near Peterborough, Ont., performed the initial metallurgical study for owner International Musto Explorations (VSE). The copper concentrate grade is estimated to be 27%, with about one ounce gold per ton of concentrate.
Musto is encouraged by a railway study, carried out by Fluor Daniel, which investigated revamping existing facilities and buying rolling stock. Ore would be transported via rail to a port city for shipment to an overseas smelter.
Envisaged is the processing of 60,000 tonnes ore per day in two grinding circuits. A feasibility study for the project is expected to be completed by the end of October. Musto says it is seeking joint-venture partners to develop the project.
