Cameco moving research division

The research and development (R & D) division of Saskatchewan uranium producer Cameco will be relocated from Saskatoon to Port Hope, Ont., where the company’s uranium processing plant is situated.

The relocation, which will last from January to June, 1994, follows last year’s reassignment, to the Saskatchewan mine sites, of mining-related research activities and the winding down of a uranium-enrichment project earlier this year.

Conversion services at Port Hope represent one step in the process that turns uranium into fuel for nuclear power plants.

Twelve permanent employees in R & D have been offered transfers in their current positions — 11 to Port Hope and one to head office in Saskatoon. The Saskatoon R & D division was established in 1989.
